Knit Studio

Our Location

Situated in Corhanwarrabul (The Dandenong Ranges), Australia, our knit studio is surrounded by National Park. This setting informs our approach to minimising environmental impact.

All processes and production, from design to finished knitwear, are carried out entirely in-house.

Knitwear Production

Fruitchouli knitwear is made using Shima Seiki WHOLEGARMENT® zero-waste 3D knitting machines from Japan, powered by renewable solar energy. This technology allows each piece to be knitted seamlessly while minimising yarn waste.

Residual yarn or unsuccessful samples are repurposed into other components or trim, reflecting a quiet circularity within our studio practice.

We operate with a knit-to-order business model, meaning we only create a garment once it has been ordered, reducing overproduction.

Advanced programming and simulation software enable us to visualise each design’s fit across different body shapes before knitting, reducing the yarn required for sampling.

For short-sleeve or cropped styles, the manufacturing process requires additional yarn as part of the knitting setup. This yarn is not included in the finished garment and is continuously rewound and reused after knitting each piece, ensuring that material is not wasted in production.

Reducing Our Impact

At Fruitchouli, we use only biodegradable fibres and components. We avoid all synthetics to prevent microplastics from entering the environment during washing.

When possible, we use captured rainwater to wash our garments. All pieces are cleaned with a grey-water safe treatment. Water is filtered through an on-site worm-farm system and reused across the property as grey water.

Our studio operates within a refitted space designed for efficiency, where design, production, dispatch and repair come together under one roof.
