Fruitchouli Literacy Fund
The Fruitchouli Literacy Fund was founded with the belief that storytelling and knowledge are fundamental to thriving communities. From our very first knit, we wanted to ensure we could contribute to something meaningful alongside creating intentional knitwear.
Through our proud support of the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), every piece of knitwear you purchase from Fruitchouli gifts a culturally relevant book to a child in a remote Australian Community.
Your support for the ILF is represented by our hang tag, thoughtfully designed to be repurposed as a bookmark.
About the Indigenous Literacy Foundation
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity of the Australian Book Industry, working with remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities across Australia. We are Community-led, responding to requests from remote Communities for culturally relevant books, including early learning board books, resources, and programs to support Communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.
In remote Communities across Australia access to books can be difficult as there are often no libraries and bookstores. Access to reading material is extremely limited and this impacts the opportunities for children to engage in reading.
ILF has 3 core programs: Book Supply, Book Buzz and Community Publishing. These 3 programs focus on ensuring access to quality resources such as books in First Languages and publishing Community stories.
Sharing books and resources created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples helps celebrate the strengths, knowledges and values of First Nations Peoples across the country.
ILF aims to support sustainable partnerships and pathways for the Communities we are privileged to work with and for.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation's Reach
Gifted over 1 million books to remote Communities through our Book Supply program.
Implemented its early literacy program Book Buzz into 115 remote playgroups.
Published 158 titles reflecting up to 41 Indigenous languages.
